Return to Clinical Studies Main Clinical Studies5801: The Incidence of Thromboembolic Events in Patients with Antibodies to Heparin-PF4 after Cardiac BypassStatus: Recruiting Please Note: The Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network will make every effort to enroll all the patients we can, but we cannot make any guarantees that we will be able to enroll everyone in a particular study who wants to participate. Summary: The purpose of this study is to determine how often heart surgery patients who receive heparin develop an immune response (heparin-induced thrombocytopenia) that leads to clots forming in different parts of the body. These clots usually occur in the legs (deep venous thrombosis or DVT) or lungs (pulmonary embolism or PE) or cause heart attacks (myocardial infarction or MI) and strokes. Target Enrollment: Expected total enrollment is 800 patients, but the goal enrollment may be later modified. Patients undergoing cardiac bypass surgery at Duke University Hospital will be screened. All ages are eligible for participation, as well as both genders. How to Participate:
