What was your consortium's most significant achievement from the past year?
Brian T. Fisher, DO, MPH, MSCE, Principal Investigator, PFN-STRIDE: We were invited to present two talks at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Workshop on rare invasive mold diseases. The workshop was held on August 13–14, 2026.
What did this achievement accomplish?
Dr. Fisher: We met with fungal disease experts around the world and shared ideas on how to perform clinical trials in the rare disease space. We also discussed novel outcome approaches and use of control patients identified from prospective observational studies such as PFN-STRIDE.
How will this impact the rare disease community?
Dr. Fisher: We had the opportunity to amplify the existence of the RDCRN and more specifically our consortium. It will lead to improved connections with patient advocacy groups, industry partners, and other scientists interested in rare fungal infections.
