What are your research goals?
Dr. Farrell: My primary research interest is in Turner syndrome (TS), and I also am interested in hypoglycemia disorders. My interest in Turner syndrome stems from my own diagnosis of mosaic TS. I have a very close understanding of the research needs in the TS community, and my goal for my research and career is to help foster the connection of the TS community with the scientific community.
How are you involved with the RDCRN?
Dr. Farrell: I was recently selected as the NASCARR Career Enhancement Post-Doctoral Fellow. I am currently a pediatric endocrinology fellow at the University of California San Diego/Rady Children's, which is one of the NASCARR clinical sites.
How does participating in the network support your long-term development?
Dr. Farrell: The RDCRN, and specifically the NASCARR consortium, is a great resource for information for rare diseases, including SCAs. It is also a large but tight-knit network to share knowledge. These long-term connections I have made—and will make—will help with my goal of improving the connection of the TS community to the medical/scientific community.
